This painting is signed “H. Belley” on the front. No title or date is recorded on the work. It was purchased at Goodwill at a discounted price.
The signature is consistent with works attributed to Henry Belley, also known as Henri-Paul Belley, an artist associated with the Yukon and Alaska regions. Belley is known for producing painted works—often floral or decorative in style—alongside carving and sculptural pieces made from antlers, bone, and local wood. His work circulated widely as regional art and souvenirs and continues to appear on secondary markets.
Available accounts note that Belley was educated in Switzerland and arrived in the Yukon in 1971, reportedly inspired by popular songs about the North. Beyond these details and the surviving body of work, little formal biographical or exhibition documentation has been identified.
