This painting is signed Lorne Presniak. Beyond the signature, limited but specific biographical information is available.
Presniak studied Commercial Art / Graphic Arts at Victoria Composite High School in Edmonton between 1966 and 1969. Later in life, he worked as a Sign Shop Foreman for the City of Edmonton from 2005 until his death in 2018. He was also involved in the Ukrainian Orthodox Youth of Canada as a member of St. Andrew’s local in Edmonton during his youth.
The painting depicts a rural landscape in autumn. A narrow creek runs through tall grasses toward distant hills, with small farm buildings set back from the foreground. Ducks appear both in flight and on the water, and birch trees with yellow foliage frame the right side of the composition. The scene combines elements that are common in Canadian landscape painting—water, wildlife, open land, and seasonal colour—without reference to a specific named location.
No date is visible on the work, and there is no inscription on the reverse to indicate when or where it was painted. The painting was purchased at Goodwill in Edmonton on June 9, 2024.
